Vaccine for Alzheimer’s Being Developed
A vaccine for Alzheimer’s could be available within the next 10 years and made available for everyone over the age of 50.
Alzheimer’s Research UK has found drugs that halt, slow or reverse the disease. These could be available in as little as 3 years and within 10 years major vaccines and screening programmes could potentially be available. There are already 12 Alzheimer’s drugs in the final hurdle of trials before being licensed.
However, dementia experts have warned that the demand for the drugs will be ‘instant and huge’ and the NHS will have to act now to prepare and have the funds to meet the demand. Some estimates suggest this could cost the NHS £9 billion.
