Cyprus
We have been traveling to Cyprus for nearly 40 years, it has changed greatly over that period not all for the better. But something in that enchanted land keeps calling us back and 2009 was no exception. Cyprus has had a very challenging year largely due to the economic climate, a great contributing factor being the Euro exchange, tempting tourists who would visit in their droves to look elsewhere. To make matters worse the locals instead of encouraging their tourist back into their restaurants and facilities with great deals have increased their prices trying to recoup money from the downturn in trade.
Not discouraged by the Euro we ended up once again in Paphos at Coral Bay this time to try a Boutique Hotel called the Thalassa. I was really impressed, a great Hotel for those who like to indulge themselves, perfect for those of 50 plus as it only caters for 12 years and up. The views from the hotel are amazing, each morning I spanned the sea for early morning swimmers and boats, whilst enjoying one of the best hotel breakfasts I have ever eaten. For the beach lovers you do have to be reasonable fit as the hotel is located over looking the bay with steps down to the beach, but the hotel does host a great pool and Spa so all your needs are catered for. For the more adventurous there is even a PADI Dive Centre close by.
For the evenings there is plenty going on in the town centre, but the hotel has an excellent bar and a really lovely fish restaurant. For those who like to let their hair down, you can step next door to the night club at the Coral Beach a sister hotel of the Thalassa and dance the night away. With temperate weather even in most winter months, Cyprus will always be a repeat destination for us. www.thalassa.com.cy
